THE CURRENT SITUATION


The Tris-bet

Introduced on Italian race tracks in 1958, the Tris-bet, a simple Tote-bet on horse races, which consists in forecasting in exact order of arrival , horses arriving in first, second and third place in a given daily trotting or gallop race (the so-called Tris-race). For more than 30 years, the Tris-bet was available only on the racetracks or in the bookmaker shops.

Being the Tris-bet a bet with a simple game formular, easy to understand and to play, Sisal decided to offer this bet to the public and obtained the authorization to manage it by U.N.I.R.E. (Italian Horse Racing Authority ). In 1991 the Tris-bet was launched into the shops of the Sisal network, giving a sizeable share of funds for the development of the whole horseracing industry and to the Treasury.

In 1993 Sisal, having installed a state-of-the-art data processing system in its network, decided to increase the number of the races and so the possibilities to bet.

The success of the Tris-bet was striking: the turnover, more than 44 million Euro in 1990, increased to more than 1,2 billion Euro in 1996.

The Tris-bet is still a wealth of the horseracing industry and its introduction into the Sisal shops has increased both, the number of players and the interest in horse races in general and a sizeable share of funds for the horseracing industry, the retailers, the licensees and the Treasury.

In support of the Tris-bet, Sisal adopted a proper strategy of customer relationship management, including promotional events in the shops and advertising campaigns, which have had a striking success. The Tris-bet is supported by the encrypted Sisal TV channel, which can be received in Sisal shops only, broadcasting 16 hours a day, focused on gaming, in order to provide retailers and customers a constant flow of forecasts and results, information and horse races as live events.

Run by Sisal until December 31st 1999, the Ministry of Finance opened a new Tender for the Tris licence and awarded the licence to the operator Sarabet. In November 2002 Sisal was authorized to manage the Tris-bet again, jointly with Sarabet. Again the Tris-bet is available in all Sisal shops and Sisal immediately became the main operator, accruing more than 60% of the total handle.

On November 7th 2005 Sisal introduced two new bets coupled with the Tris-races: the first, called "Vincente nazionale", consists in forecasting the horse taking first place; the second, called "Accoppiata nazionale", the two horses taking first and second place in exact order of arrival.

Starting from January 3rd 2006, players can bet on both, the Tris-bet and its coupled bets, twice a day. In addition to the usual afternoon/evening race a second Tris-race will take place every day between 13.30 and 13.50.

On January 4th 2006 was introduced another Tris coupled bet, called "Quartè" which consists in forecasting the four horses arriving in first, second, third and fourth place, in exact order of arrival. January 27th 2006 will be the day of the launch of the Quintè bet, which consists in forecasting the first five horses, in exact order of arrival.
