Sisal, through its GoBeyond platform for responsible innovation, has sponsored research conducted by the Social Innovation Monitor (SIM) on innovative startups with significant social and environmental impact in Italy.
What are the numbers for startups with significant social and environmental impact in Italy? How do they compare to traditional startups? These are the central questions of the research, in line with the values and mission of GoBeyond, the responsible innovation platform created by Sisal with the aim of supporting the development of startups and entrepreneurial projects that generate positive societal impacts.
The GoBeyond project has evolved over time into a comprehensive innovation platform consisting of three pillars: Call for Ideas, Academy, and Community, offering continuous and comprehensive support to startups developing ideas capable of addressing the most complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. In its seventh edition in 2023, the Call for Ideas is open until October 31, and the winning startup will receive a 50,000 euro equity-free grant provided by Sisal, along with a mentorship program for all six finalists, guaranteed by the renewed network of partners offering expertise and know-how to meet the development needs of startups. Additionally, the three most promising "concept-only" startups, those entrepreneurial entities not yet established and without a tested product or service, will be given an online incubation program in collaboration with Startup Geeks.
Supporting the GoBeyond startup ecosystem aligns with the potential of the Italian market highlighted in the SIM research report, which indicated that there were 12,026 operational innovative startups under five years of age, meeting regulatory thresholds by the end of 2022. Based on the research, the number of startups has slightly decreased in all Italian regions, but the proportion of startups concentrated in Lombardy, Lazio, and Campania, the top three Italian regions in terms of startup numbers, has increased.
The report will be presented during an expert panel on October 2nd at 5:30 PM on Zoom. To participate in the webinar, registration is required at this link.
