Sisal: CEO Francesco Durante Presented with The Executive Award (TEA), Honoring Sustainable Leaders

Last week in the splendid setting of Palazzo Parigi in Milan, the CEO of Sisal Francesco Durante was presented with The Executive Award (TEA), Honoring Sustainable Leaders, on the occasion of the second Italian edition of this international initiative.

TEA is a prize bestowed upon executives who have proven their ability to generate a measurable positive impact on the planet through their business initiatives in a given country.

Specifically, the jury acknowledged Mr. Durante’s commitment to promoting the path undertaken by Sisal in recent years in line with national and international best practices, leading to the development of a sustainability agenda for the purpose of building a more responsible, digital, and inclusive future.

The company’s strategic priorities to be achieved by 2030 with clear and measurable goals are three: zero problem gamblers to become the leader in responsible gaming, zero gender pay gap to become an exemplary work environment and zero net CO2 emissions to be an innovative and sustainable company and achieve zero net CO2 emissions.

The reasons and actions that contributed to the award of this prize in the area of responsible gaming, among other things, included the launch of an innovative research programme on gaming behaviour in collaboration with the Catholic University of Milan to ensure targeted risk mitigation actions; the introduction of artificial intelligence models aimed at preventing unsustainable gaming behaviour; and the creation of a training programme that involved the entire company to encourage safe gaming behaviour.

As part of DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) initiatives, the company’s achievements included having halved the gender pay gap in two years and reached 6.2% at Group level, with 35% of women holding managerial positions, and having expanded its inclusion strategy at all levels in terms of accessibility (disability), LGBTQIA+, gender, generation, and multiculturalism.

In terms of environmental impact, the actions being acknowledged included the launch of a zero CO2 emissions programme in the company’s workplaces resulting in their substantial reduction - over 3,500 tonnes of CO2 were avoided in 2022 alone; the reduction of the environmental footprint at a digital level; the transition to electric mobility with company fleets comprising electric or hybrid vehicles; and the reduction of consumption within each of the company’s stores.

The company’s support for the ecosystem of startups with the GoBeyond programme and its corporate volunteering projects as part of Sisal’s solidarity initiative WeDo were also mentioned.
